Commissioned by Gwangju Bienale International Art Expo 2002
Provided historical and ethnographic context of artists and their five diasporic communities – Almaty, Kazakhstan; Los Angeles, U.S.; Yanbian, China; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Osaka, Japan. Field research included participant-observation, visual documentation and interviews with artists, historians, educators, and other community members in five international cities. Deliverables included a visual timeline and an ethno-history chronicling the Korean transmigration across 4 continents. Multi-panel video installations (five impressionistic montages) contextualized the artists’ experiences.
